Young Women’s
Place Inc. is a not for profit community organisation providing
services to young women and their families in the Toowoomba
area. We are funded through the Department of Communities
around young people at risk of homelessness, QLD Health
for Innovative Health Services for Homeless Youth and through
Toowoomba District Health Service for a Community Midwife
(part-time).
Role in Schools
YWP provides a health promotion role to schools upon request
to ensure a community focus in service delivery. YWP can provide
workshops / information sessions or provide up-skilling opportunities
for staff to deliver programs offered by the service. Up-skilling
of existing staff is encouraged as it promotes school participation
and sustainability of program delivery. Program specialty areas
include:
- Healthy Relationships
- Body Image and Society
- Personal Development
- Stress and Coping Strategies
- Choices and Problem Solving
- ‘Core of Life’ Early
Parenting and Pregnancy
Procedure for Requesting Workshop or Forum Presenter
- School Personnel to complete Request Form with at least
(4) weeks notice provided
- School Personnel to read policy to be informed as to
confidentiality requirements of YWP staff and student behaviour
procedure
- Form Faxed /Emailed to YWP
- YWP provide request response to relevant school personnel
within 1 week (Coincide with staff meetings)
- At least (1) meeting should be held where possible with
relevant staff to ensure presentation material is appropriate
to the request, parental consent requirements are met and
any follow-up support needs are addressed.
Student Behaviour Procedure
YWP operates from within a Feminist framework recognising
and adhering to standards of practice encompassing principles
of respect, dignity, social justice and safety for staff and
clients. YWP Staff is therefore entitled to a working environment
free from abuse, violence, sexual harassment, intimidation
or unsafe situations.
Student Rights and Responsibilities
- Students have a right to a safe learning environment
free from violence, harassment, sexual harassment and bullying
- Students have a right to respectful communication from
YWP staff and not to be judged or discriminated against
in discussions, workshops and presentations
- Students have a right to express their thoughts and opinions
around topics discussed in workshops
- Students have a right to inform YWP staff and / or Teaching
staff should they feel their rights have not been respected
- Students have a responsibility to ensure the learning
environment is safe for others and free from violence,
harassment, sexual harassment and bullying
- Students have a responsibility to ensure they speak to
others and YWP staff respectfully and without judgement
or discrimination
- Students have a responsibility to allow others to express
their thoughts and opinions around topics discussed
in workshops
YWP Staff will adhere to the same rights and responsibilities
for students ensuring a safe learning environment for all.
